Inbox tabs

Bottle Mail sorts your inbox into tabs like Primary, Promotions and Updates, right on your PC, so it is easier to find what matters.

Windows app
Each tab shows how many unread messages it holds.

How it works

  • New mail is sorted into Primary, Promotions, Social, Updates and Forums from its headers and sender. This happens on your PC. No AI is used and nothing is sent anywhere.
  • Primary is always there. If you hide a tab, its mail stays in Primary.
  • The All tab comes first and shows every inbox message in one list. Messages outside Primary carry a small tag with the name of their tab.
  • The tabs work in the combined inbox of all your accounts and in each account’s own inbox.
  • If a message you are reading moves to another tab in the background, it stays put until you leave it. Then a short note says where it went, with Undo and Always keep in.

Move a sender to another tab

  1. Right-click a message and choose a tab under Move to tab. You can also drag the message onto a tab.
  2. A note says “Moved to Updates”, with Undo.
  3. To do the same for everything from that sender, select Always for followed by their address in the same note. Their mail now goes to that tab, and you see “Mail from … will go to Updates”.

You can also add a sender yourself: open Settings, then Inbox & labels, and use Sender rules. Type an address, or @example.com for everyone at a company, and pick the tab.

Choose your tabs

  1. Open Settings, then Inbox & labels.
  2. Turn Show tabs above the inbox on or off.
  3. Under Tabs to show, tick the tabs you want.
  4. Turn Show an All tab first on or off.

Questions

Will I get notifications for mail in Promotions or Updates?

Yes, every tab notifies unless you switch it off. See New mail notifications.

Are inbox tabs in the web app?

Not yet. Inbox tabs are in the Windows app.
