New mail notifications
Bottle Mail tells you about new mail within seconds, in every inbox tab you choose.
Windows appHow it works
- Bottle Mail keeps a live connection to your mail server, so new mail usually shows up within seconds. If the connection drops, for example when your Wi-Fi changes or your PC wakes from sleep, it reconnects and catches up by itself.
- Every inbox tab notifies unless you switch it off. A message outside Primary says where it is filed, for example “Updates · …”, so you know where to find it.
- When several messages arrive together, you get one notification, such as “3 new messages”.
- Select a notification to open the message.
- You are never notified about spam, blocked senders, mail your rules move out of the inbox, or mail that is already read.
- When you close the window, Bottle Mail keeps running in the tray next to the clock and keeps notifying you. You can change this in Settings → Notifications.
While Bottle Mail is locked
If you use the app lock, notifications still arrive, but a sign-in code is never shown while the app is locked. You see “New sign-in code” instead. See Sign-in codes.
Choose which tabs notify you
- Open Settings, then Notifications.
- Make sure Desktop notifications for new mail is on.
- Under Notify me about new mail in, untick the tabs you do not want to hear about.
In the same place you can turn notifications off for one account, or choose Only for VIP senders.
Questions
I do not see any notifications.
Windows may be hiding them. Settings → Notifications tells you when Windows is not showing notifications from Bottle Mail, with a button to open the Windows notification settings. Do not disturb or Focus in Windows also hides them while it is on.
I turned inbox tabs off. What notifies now?
All new mail in your inbox.
Can I be told when someone opens my mail?
Yes. In Settings → Notifications, turn on Notify when a tracked email is read or opened. See Read tracking.
